Happy Sunday!
If youāre following My Side Plot on Fable, you know our September book is The Snap by Elizabeth Stapleš
If you havenāt started yet, donāt worry! Iāll post a full review on September 30th, so thereās still time to catch up.
Quick Book Report
My reading levels have plummeted.
We have second-summer weather in Toronto, and all I want to do is listen to pop music and stroll around the block with an attitude.
Just look at this chart:
Please send your thoughts and prayers as I will myself out of this slumpā¦.

Here are the two books Iāve finished so far in September:
š Save the Cat Writes a Novel, Jessica Brody
Practical, clear, and concise - this is everything I want a writing book to be. I will come back to this one forever (or, that is, for as long as Iām trying to write novels) 5/5 āļø
𩸠Born of Blood and Ash, Jennifer L.Armentrout
Iām embarrassed to have this on my list, but I had to see the series through. This is the final book of the most chaotic, nonsensical fantasy Iāve ever read.
Do I understand the plot? No.
Was the world interesting? Kind of?
Were the characters fun? Not really.
I truly donāt understand why I kept reading, but I finished all FOUR of these books. All four of these 700+ page books, I might add.
And yet! I canāt tell you a single thing that happened? The final battle was less than a chapter?? The spicy scenes were random and kind of all the same??? They are gods but have to feed on each otherās blood sometimes and that makes them horny???? Everyone is a twin???? Thereās a big prophecy that ends up not even being about the main characters anyway???????
Even more confusing is that Born of Blood and Ash has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. How did we get here? Where even am I?? Someone take me back to the normal vampire books of my youth⦠1/5 āļø
My TBR
No book promo has ever grabbed me like this video.
Saving Five by Amanda Nguyen is now at the top of my reading list - what a friggenā story.
If I wasnāt sold before, this dedication from her preorder page sealed the deal: āThis book is written for every survivor. May these pages help you heal. May they help you find hope. May they help to show you that you will make it through.ā
Iām not crying. Youāre crying.
Spineless Selects
Get it? āCause theyāre not books.
š Chimp Crazy, HBO
Truth is stranger than fiction, and this docuseries proves it. If you arenāt watching this on Crave, I need you to stop everything and put it on right now.
Former nurse-turned-exotic-animal-broker Tonia Haddix, who refers to herself as the āDolly Parton of chimps,ā spends her days caring for animals in captivity. However, her limitless love for one chimpanzee spins into a wild cat-and-mouse game with authorities and an animal rights group.
š¶ At the 2024 VMAs, Everybody Wanted to Be Britney Spears, Harpers Bazaar
This article isnāt good, but the point deserves to be shared (because itās true).
