Gary has a dewormer in his fur and it’s stinky.
So stinky.
I know the medication stench is better than dealing with worms, but right now I’d love a non-smelly cat.
Whenever I catch a whiff, I wonder if maybe worms aren’t so bad. Maybe they’re actually kind of cute? Maybe they’re like a bunch of small, bonus, wiggly pets.
That’s probably not true.
What is true is March’s full moon is called the Worm Moon.
Coincidence????? Yes.
Symbolically significant???? Maybe!
The Worm Moon got its name from all the hyped-up worm activity that happens when the ground thaws. Those squirmy little buddies are the first signs of spring. They are raving in the dirt around the same time teenagers are raging on March break.
According to crystal girls, TikTok astrologers, and Popsugar: The imagery of earthworms slithering under the soil may also signify the unseen changes occurring beneath the surface in your life. After months of intense cleansing, healing, and shedding, the worm moon is a reminder that progress does not happen overnight.
Deep stuff.
The full moon is still a couple of weeks away, but tonight marks the first phase in this lunar cycle (aka the new moon). New moons come with their own rituals and symbolism. The start of a new cycle means it’s time to manifest, to get clear on your goals, and to envision the month ahead.
A time to deworm, if you will.
Stay with me on this one…
My head is filled with intrusive worms.
Some are small wriggly thoughts about movies to watch, chores I need to do, or words I really like (ie: masticate).
Others are giant Dune-style sand monsters that rip through my psyche with butthole-shaped mouths.
Those worms are scary. Those worms cannot be fought off by a tiny liquid vial poured on the back of my cat’s neck. Those worms require digging and therapy and maybe an exorcism to unearth.
It’s hard to set intentions for the month when my brain looks and feels like a live bowl of noodles.
Worms currently squirming through my mind:
Is this blog a waste of time?
Daylight savings should not mess me up as much as it has
Is my pinky toe normal?
Is it possible to feel fulfilled without overextending myself?
Dune 2 would be half as long if they cut scenes where people are just staring
Would I still love me if I was a worm?
I swear I’m losing three times the amount of hair that I should be
Also this song
Why do all cats like to pull on curtains? Do they know it’s a stereotype?
Am I too obsessed with my cat?
Maybe it’s not ethically responsible to have a family
This song, always
Should I try face yoga?
Am I susceptible to scams?
Maybe I’m actually way dumber than I think I am
And on and on and on….
There has not been a day, month, or second where my head has been worm-free.
Where is this metaphor going?
Great question.
Having a quiet, focused mind sounds ideal. It also sounds a little boring.
Scientifically, worms are awesome. They add nutrients to the soil, help with drainage, allow roots to dig deeper into the soil, and have been seen to increase pasture growth by 80%.
They are productivity icons.
The worms’ endless consumption is what paves the way for new growth. They #cantstopwontstop tunnelling and eating and pooping so much that they completely transform the environment around them.
In other words: my intrusive thoughts dig so deep into my brain that they create the environment for my imagination to flourish.
…At least that’s my take.
Instead of deworming myself, I am absorbing the benefits of a busy mind. I am trying to harness the power of worms Dune style (iykyk).
For March, I plan to thump-thump-thump my way onto the craziest ideas and ride them into new projects.
My first example? The absolutely batshit article about worms that you’re currently reading…
